Product Overview
B. Braun Mini Plasco Sodium Chloride 0.9% is a single-dose sterile saline ampoule designed for the parenteral preparation of medications, intravascular catheter flushing (peripheral cannulae, central venous catheters, PICCs, implanted ports, dialysis catheters), nebulizer drug reconstitution, and topical irrigation of open wounds, surgical fields, and ocular surfaces. The container is a polyethylene plastic ampoule with a twist-off top — the all-plastic design eliminates glass particulate risk associated with traditional glass ampoules and supports needle-free aseptic transfer when paired with B. Braun NRFit, ENFit, or Luer access devices.
The solution contains sodium chloride 9.0 mg/mL with a tonicity of approximately 308 mOsm/L, pH range 4.5–7.0, and is free from preservatives, antimicrobials, and bacteriostatic agents. Once opened, residual solution must be discarded per ASHP (American Society of Health-System Pharmacists) and SHSQI (Singapore Healthcare Services Quality Improvement) guidance for single-dose containers. Each carton contains 20 ampoules.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why use Mini Plasco polyethylene ampoules over glass ampoules?
A: Glass ampoule fracture introduces glass particulate into the solution; multiple studies and ISMP (Institute for Safe Medication Practices) advisories document this risk. Mini Plasco polyethylene containers eliminate glass particulate, are needle-free for aseptic spike-free draw, and reduce sharps injury risk during opening. The container is also PVC-free, latex-free, and DEHP-free.
Q: Is this product the same as IV bag saline (e.g. 500 mL or 1000 mL)?
A: The solution is chemically identical (0.9% NaCl, isotonic, sterile, preservative-free) but the container size and intended use differ. Mini Plasco 10/20 mL ampoules are designed for single-dose flushing, reconstitution, and irrigation. IV infusion bags (250–1000 mL) are designed for continuous parenteral fluid replacement.
Q: How long can the opened ampoule be used?
A: Mini Plasco is a single-dose container. ASHP, INS, and Singapore healthcare infection control standards require any residual solution to be discarded immediately after opening to prevent microbial contamination. Do not store partial-use ampoules.
Q: Is the product approved for use by HSA Singapore?
A: Yes. B. Braun Sodium Chloride 0.9% Mini Plasco is HSA-registered as a therapeutic product for use in Singapore healthcare facilities and home infusion settings. It also carries CE Mark under EU MDR 2017/745 and is manufactured to ISO 13485:2016 quality management.
Q: Can this be used for paediatric and neonatal patients?
A: Yes, 0.9% sodium chloride is the standard isotonic flushing solution across all age groups. Volume per flush should follow institutional paediatric/neonatal protocols (typically 1–3 mL for neonates, 3–5 mL for paediatrics) and the catheter manufacturer’s instructions for use.
