Clinical Summary: B. Braun Askina DresSil Border 7.5 x 7.5 cm is a sterile, self-adherent multi-layer silicone foam dressing with a 1.5 cm peripheral adhesive border, indicated for low- to moderately exuding partial- and full-thickness wounds. The waterproof, bacteria-impermeable outer film and conformable polyurethane foam pad allow up to 7 days of wear in low-exudate wounds. CE-marked under EU MDR 2017/745 and supplied 10 dressings per carton.

Product Overview

Askina DresSil Border is engineered for wound sites that benefit from atraumatic adhesion and a defined adhesive perimeter, including knees, elbows and other flexion or skin-fold areas where dressing security is critical. The construction layers a soft silicone wound-contact adhesive with a polyurethane absorbent foam core, a non-woven exudate-spreading layer, and a vapour-permeable, waterproof polyurethane backing film. The 1.5 cm border secures the dressing without occluding healthy periwound skin under the absorbent pad.

Soft-silicone (Safetac-style) wound-contact technology is recommended in EWMA Atraumatic Wound Care position documents to minimise pain at dressing change and reduce periwound skin trauma in patients with fragile or steroid-thinned skin. The dressing supports moist wound healing aligned with TIME wound-bed preparation principles and may be used as a primary or secondary dressing in conjunction with topical antimicrobial primary layers when clinically indicated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose a bordered silicone foam over a non-bordered foam?
A bordered presentation eliminates the need for a separate retention adhesive or tape, which reduces the risk of medical-adhesive-related skin injury (MARSI) on fragile periwound skin. WUWHS Best Practice in MARSI Prevention identifies soft-silicone bordered foams as a preferred option in patients with thin or compromised skin.

How is the 7.5 x 7.5 cm size selected?
The 7.5 x 7.5 cm format provides a 4.5 x 4.5 cm absorbent pad with a 1.5 cm border for retention. EWMA practice recommends a periwound margin of at least 1–2 cm; this size is therefore suited to wounds of approximately 2 x 2 cm or smaller. Larger Askina DresSil Border sizes are available for larger wounds.

Can the patient shower with Askina DresSil Border in place?
The vapour-permeable polyurethane backing film is waterproof; brief showering is generally acceptable provided the adhesive border seal is intact. Replace the dressing if the seal is compromised or saturation is observed.

Is the dressing compatible with topical antimicrobials?
Askina DresSil Border is non-medicated and compatible with most topical antiseptics and antimicrobial primary dressings used in biofilm-based wound care, consistent with IWII Wound Infection in Clinical Practice (2022) guidance.

How is the dressing supplied for Singapore healthcare buyers?
EMIS supplies Askina DresSil Border in original B. Braun cartons of 10. Product is intended for healthcare-professional use; institutional and bulk pricing for hospitals, polyclinics, nursing homes and home-nursing teams in Singapore is available on request, with HSA-aligned import documentation.
