Clinical Summary: BPositive Water and Bacteria Proof Film Dressing with Pad (10 x 12 cm) is a sterile single-use composite wound dressing combining a transparent polyurethane film with a central low-adherent absorbent island pad. The waterproof, vapour-permeable film provides a viral and bacterial barrier while permitting moisture-vapour transmission, indicated for post-operative incision cover, IV cannula site protection, and management of low-to-moderate exudate acute and chronic wounds in clinical and home-care settings.

Product Overview

BPositive Film Dressing with Pad (10 × 12 cm) is constructed from a thin, conformable transparent polyurethane (PU) backing coated with a hypoallergenic acrylic adhesive, with a central absorbent low-adherent pad positioned to cover the wound bed without contacting the periwound skin. The PU film is impermeable to liquid water and to bacteria and viruses larger than 27 nm — conforming to ASTM F1670 (synthetic blood penetration) and ASTM F1671 (viral penetration) test methodologies for barrier dressings — while permitting a moisture-vapour transmission rate (MVTR) that supports the moist wound-healing principles described in the European Wound Management Association (EWMA) consensus statements.

The composite construction allows the patient to shower, bathe, and perform daily activities without dressing change, supporting ambulation and reducing dressing-change frequency. The low-adherent pad protects newly granulating tissue from disruption at removal, in line with TIME (Tissue, Infection, Moisture, Edge) wound-bed-preparation principles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this dressing genuinely waterproof for showering?
Yes. The polyurethane film backing is impermeable to liquid water at normal shower pressures while remaining vapour-permeable. Patients may shower with the dressing intact provided the dressing edges remain firmly adhered. The dressing is not designed for prolonged submersion (e.g., swimming) and should be inspected for edge lift after every shower.

How often should the dressing be changed?
Change frequency is dictated by exudate level, dressing integrity, and clinical indication. For post-operative incision dressings without exudate, dressings can typically remain in place 5–7 days. For low-to-moderate exudate wounds, change when exudate visibly approaches the dressing edges, when the seal is compromised, or per institutional protocol.

Is this dressing suitable for infected wounds?
No. Transparent film-pad composite dressings are intended for clean and clean-contaminated wounds. For wounds with clinical signs of local or spreading infection, an antimicrobial primary dressing (silver, iodine, PHMB) and review of antibiotic therapy is indicated, in line with International Wound Infection Institute (IWII) guidance.

Can the dressing be used on fragile or geriatric skin?
The acrylic adhesive is skin-friendly, but caution is warranted on aged, atrophic, or steroid-thinned skin and in patients with epidermolysis bullosa. Use a skin-protectant film barrier (e.g., 3M Cavilon) under the dressing margin and remove using low-and-slow horizontal stretch technique to minimise medical adhesive-related skin injury (MARSI).

What is the regulatory status in Singapore?
The product is registered with Singapore's Health Sciences Authority under the Medical Devices Act (Class IIa wound dressing) and supplied to public-sector hospitals, restructured hospitals, polyclinics, GP clinics, home-nursing services, and community wound-care providers. Essential Medical International Supplies Pte Ltd is the appointed Singapore distributor.
