Clinical Summary: BPositive Water and Bacteria Proof Film Dressing with Pad (10 x 15 cm) is a sterile, single-use composite wound dressing combining a transparent vapour-permeable polyurethane film with a central low-adherent absorbent island pad. The 10 × 15 cm format is sized for medium post-operative incisions, surgical drains, abdominal port sites, and IV-line dressings, providing a waterproof, viral and bacterial barrier dressing that supports moist wound healing in clinical and ambulatory settings.

Product Overview

BPositive Film Dressing with Pad (10 × 15 cm) consists of a thin, conformable transparent polyurethane (PU) backing coated with a hypoallergenic acrylic adhesive, with a central low-adherent absorbent pad positioned over the wound bed. The PU film is impermeable to liquid water and to bacteria and viruses larger than approximately 27 nm — consistent with ASTM F1670 (synthetic blood penetration) and ASTM F1671 (viral penetration) test methodologies for barrier dressings — while permitting an MVTR that maintains a moist wound microenvironment per the European Wound Management Association (EWMA) consensus on optimum wound moisture balance.

The 10 × 15 cm dimension provides additional periwound coverage compared to the 10 × 12 cm reference, suitable for laparotomy and laparoscopic-port closures, knee-arthroscopy portals, abdominal drain exit sites, and central-line dressings where a generous adhesive border is required to maintain seal integrity. The composite construction allows showering and ambulation without dressing change.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the 10 × 15 cm size compare to other format options?
The 10 × 15 cm size offers a longer adhesive border than the 10 × 12 cm format, providing better seal-integrity for laparotomy incisions and longer surgical wounds (up to ~10 cm wound length). Choose 10 × 12 cm for shorter incisions and IV-cannula dressings; choose 10 × 15 cm for medium post-operative incisions and central-line dressings.

Is the dressing safe to use over a freshly closed surgical incision?
Yes. Transparent film-pad composite dressings are widely indicated as a primary post-operative incision dressing for clean and clean-contaminated surgical wounds. They permit ongoing visual inspection of the periwound margin for erythema, dehiscence, or surgical-site infection without disturbing the wound seal.

How long can the dressing remain in place?
For low-exudate post-operative wounds, the dressing can typically remain in place for 5–7 days, or until exudate visibly approaches the dressing margin, the seal is compromised, or per surgeon order. Dressings should be changed earlier if there is clinical suspicion of infection.

Can the dressing be used on lower-extremity venous leg ulcers?
Composite film-pad dressings are appropriate as a secondary cover dressing over a primary moisture-managing dressing on low-exudate venous leg ulcers, but compression therapy remains the cornerstone of management per ABPI / NICE / WUWHS venous-leg-ulcer guidelines. Do not use as the sole dressing for highly exudating ulcers.

What is the regulatory status in Singapore?
The product is registered with Singapore's Health Sciences Authority under the Medical Devices Act (Class IIa wound dressing) and is supplied to public-sector hospitals, private hospitals, polyclinics, GP clinics, home-nursing organisations, and community wound-care providers. Essential Medical International Supplies Pte Ltd is the appointed Singapore distributor.
