Product Overview
Diamonds™ Gelling and Odor Control Sachets address two of the most common quality-of-life concerns reported by ileostomy and high-output stoma patients: liquid effluent that destabilises the pouch profile, and gas accumulation (ballooning) that increases the risk of pouch detachment and leakage. Each unopened sachet is dropped into a clean, empty ostomy pouch; the absorbent polymer matrix activates on contact with liquid effluent and converts it into a soft gel, while activated additives support odour neutralisation throughout the wear cycle.
Use of pouch gelling agents is supported by international ostomy nursing guidance from the World Council of Enterostomal Therapists (WCET) and the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN), particularly for patients with watery output following ileostomy formation, after small-bowel resection, or during episodes of intestinal hypermotility. Routine use is associated with reduced overnight pouch drainage frequency, improved sleep continuity, and lower peristomal skin exposure to liquid effluent.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many sachets should be added to a pouch?
One sachet typically gels approximately 100–150 mL of liquid output. For high-output ileostomies, two to three sachets may be required per pouch wear period. Stomal therapy nurses commonly titrate based on individual output volume documented during the first 1–2 weeks of trial use.
Can Diamonds sachets be used in a urostomy pouch?
No. Diamonds is contraindicated in urostomy pouches because urine has different ionic and osmotic characteristics, and gelling of urinary output can interfere with the antireflux valve and night drainage system. Convatec markets a separate range for urostomy management.
Does the sachet need to be opened or pierced before use?
No. The sachet is designed with a permeable membrane and is dropped into the empty pouch unopened. Opening the sachet exposes loose super-absorbent polymer beads that can adhere to peristomal skin and the pouch outlet.
Are these sachets safe to flush down a toilet?
Convatec recommends disposing of the used pouch with the gelled contents intact in domestic waste. Gelled super-absorbent polymer is not designed for sewer disposal and may obstruct plumbing in older Singapore HDB and condominium units.
