Product Overview
Mepore Pro is a compound surgical dressing featuring a viral and bacterial-proof waterproof outer film coated with a skin-friendly, water-based, solvent-free polyacrylate adhesive, and a central low-adherent absorbent pad. The dressing is engineered to provide a long-wear, shower-proof barrier between the wound and the external environment while allowing moisture vapour to evaporate to maintain a balanced moist wound microenvironment, in line with TIME (Tissue, Infection, Moisture, Edge) wound-bed-preparation principles and EWMA optimum-wound-moisture consensus statements.
The 9 × 15 cm size is sized for medium post-operative incisions, abdominal-laparoscopic ports, and orthopaedic surgical wounds, with a generous adhesive border for secure four-sided fixation. The polyacrylate adhesive minimises medical-adhesive-related skin injury (MARSI) risk on intact periwound skin and is non-sensitising for most patients.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does Mepore Pro differ from standard Mepore?
Standard Mepore has a non-waterproof spunlace outer; Mepore Pro adds a viral and bacterial-proof waterproof outer film, supporting showering and protecting both patient and caregiver from blood-borne pathogen exposure during dressing wear. Mepore Pro is therefore preferred for community-care and ambulatory post-operative scenarios.
How long can the dressing remain in place?
For low-to-moderate exudate post-operative wounds, Mepore Pro can typically be left in situ for up to 7 days (per manufacturer instructions for use), or until exudate visibly approaches the pad edge, the seal is compromised, or per surgeon order. Dressings should be changed earlier if there is suspicion of surgical-site infection or clinical inspection is required.
Is the dressing suitable for paediatric and elderly patients?
The polyacrylate adhesive is hypoallergenic and is widely used across paediatric and elderly populations. On fragile, atrophic, or steroid-thinned skin, apply a skin-protectant film barrier under the adhesive border and remove using low-and-slow horizontal stretch technique to minimise MARSI risk per the ISTAP / WUWHS skin-tear prevention guidance.
Can the dressing be used over an actively bleeding or heavily exudating wound?
No. Mepore Pro is intended for low-to-moderate exudate wounds. Heavily exudating wounds require a dedicated absorbent primary dressing (foam, hydrofibre) and a more frequent change interval. Active arterial bleeding is a contraindication and requires haemostasis prior to dressing application.
What is the regulatory status in Singapore?
Mepore Pro is registered with Singapore's Health Sciences Authority under the Medical Devices Act and supplied to public-sector hospitals, restructured hospitals, polyclinics, GP clinics, day-surgery centres, home-nursing services, and community wound-care providers. Essential Medical International Supplies Pte Ltd is the appointed Singapore distributor.
