Clinical Summary: Mölnlycke Tubifast 2-Way Stretch tubular bandage, Purple line (REF 2444), is a non-sterile viscose, polyester and elastomer retention dressing supplied as a 10 m roll, 20 cm flat width. The Purple-line size is engineered for large adult trunks and large limbs with stretched circumferences from approximately 25 to 51 cm, and is indicated for atraumatic dressing retention, wet-wrap and dry-wrap therapy without tape, pins or ties.

Product Overview

Tubifast 2-Way Stretch is Mölnlycke's pin-free, latex-free retention bandage system used across dermatology, burns, plastic surgery and complex wound care. The proprietary 2-Way Stretch knit allows the tubing to elongate both lengthwise and circumferentially, which conforms to body contours without applying compressive pressure that could compromise underlying graft, contact-layer or non-adherent dressings.

The Purple line (REF 2444) is the largest of the colour-coded retention sizes and is selected for adult trunk wrapping, adult thighs and bariatric limb retention. As a continuous 10 m roll, it is cut to length at the bedside and applied over primary dressings, emollient, topical corticosteroid or hydrogel without disturbing the wound bed. It is suitable as both the inner damp layer and the outer dry layer in two-layer wet-wrap protocols.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How is the Tubifast colour line selected?
A: Mölnlycke colour-codes Tubifast tubular bandage by stretched circumference: Red line (REF 2434) fits small limbs, Green line (REF 2436) fits small to medium limbs, Blue line (REF 2438) fits medium to large limbs, Yellow line (REF 2440) fits extra-large limbs, heads or children's trunks, and Purple line (REF 2444, this product) is the largest size for large adult trunks. Measure the limb at the widest expected swelling point before selecting.

Q: Does Tubifast deliver therapeutic compression?
A: No. Tubifast 2-Way Stretch is a retention dressing, not a compression bandage. The fabric stretches in two directions specifically to avoid generating sustained interface pressure on underlying tissue or fragile dressings. Where graduated compression is required for venous disease or lymphoedema, prescribe a fitted medical compression hosiery in line with the International Lymphoedema Framework Best Practice and CEAP-based assessment.

Q: How is Tubifast used in wet-wrap therapy?
A: A standard two-layer protocol applies emollient and prescribed topical therapy to clean skin, then a damp Tubifast layer is placed over the active product and a dry Tubifast layer is worn on top. The damp layer cools the skin via evaporation and improves topical penetration; the dry layer maintains occlusion and prevents the wet layer reaching clothing. Duration is determined by the prescriber, typically 2–4 hours during a flare.

Q: Where is this product registered for sale in Singapore?
A: Tubifast 2-Way Stretch is CE-marked under EU MDR 2017/745 and listed on the Singapore HSA Medical Device Register as a Class A general medical device. Essential Medical International Supplies Pte Ltd distributes Tubifast in Singapore under HSA Dealer's Licence and supplies dermatology services, burns units, hospices and home-care providers.

Q: How is Tubifast laundered between uses?
A: Machine wash at up to 60 °C with a non-biological detergent and tumble dry on low heat or air-dry. Avoid fabric conditioner because it can occlude the elastomer fibres and reduce stretch performance. Inspect for thinning or loss of recoil after each cycle and replace when integrity is compromised.
