Product Overview
The Convatec ActiveLife One-Piece Drainable Pouch integrates a Stomahesive skin barrier with a 12-inch vinyl drainable pouch body in a single unit. The Stomahesive barrier is Convatec's standard-wear hydrocolloid adhesive formulation, engineered to provide reliable peristomal skin protection for patients with formed to semi-formed stoma output. The barrier creates a moisture-resistant seal that protects the peristomal skin from effluent exposure while maintaining comfortable adhesion for the recommended wear period of 3 to 5 days.
The pouch body is constructed from lightweight, flexible vinyl film with a one-sided comfort panel that provides a fabric layer between the pouch and skin. The drainable tail design allows patients to empty pouch contents without full pouch removal, reducing adhesive changes and associated peristomal skin trauma. Available in both pre-cut and cut-to-fit configurations, the ActiveLife system accommodates a range of stoma sizes from 19 mm to 64 mm. The pouch requires a separate straight tail closure clip (Convatec REF 175635) for tail-end sealing.

Clinical Indications
- Post-colostomy and post-ileostomy pouching for patients with formed to semi-formed stoma output requiring a standard-wear one-piece drainable system
- Patients who prefer a lightweight, flexible pouch with minimal bulk for daily comfort and mobility
- Healthcare facilities requiring a cost-effective, reliable one-piece ostomy system for standard post-operative and long-term stoma management
- Patients with stoma diameters between 19 mm and 64 mm, with both pre-cut and cut-to-fit options available for custom fitting
- Transitional pouching for patients who may later progress to extended-wear or two-piece systems as their stoma matures and stabilises
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between ActiveLife and Esteem+ pouching systems?
ActiveLife uses the standard Stomahesive barrier designed for formed to semi-formed output with a typical 3-to-5-day wear time. Esteem+ uses the Durahesive Plus extended-wear barrier, which is moisture-reactive and designed for semi-formed to liquid output with wear times up to 7 days. ActiveLife is generally a more economical option appropriate for patients with predictable, formed output. Selection between the two should be based on output consistency, per WCET (World Council of Enterostomal Therapists) guidance on barrier-output matching.
Why does this pouch require a separate tail clip?
The ActiveLife pouch uses a traditional straight tail closure clip (Convatec REF 175635) rather than an integrated closure system. The clip provides a mechanical seal at the tail end and is removable for draining. Patients who prefer a clip-free system should consider the Esteem+ range with InvisiClose integrated tail closure. Clip closure remains a widely used and clinically validated method endorsed by ostomy nursing guidelines.
How do I determine if I need a pre-cut or cut-to-fit barrier?
Pre-cut barriers are available in fixed stoma aperture sizes and are suitable for patients whose stoma has stabilised in size, typically 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. Cut-to-fit barriers allow custom sizing using scissors and a stoma measuring guide, and are recommended during the post-operative period when stoma dimensions are still changing. An enterostomal therapy (ET) nurse should measure the stoma and advise on appropriate sizing, per ASCRS clinical practice guidelines.
Is this product available for purchase in Singapore?
Yes. The Convatec ActiveLife pouch is HSA-registered and available through EMIS (Essential Medical International Supplies Pte Ltd) for individual and institutional procurement in Singapore. EMIS offers delivery across Singapore with options for scheduled recurring orders to support uninterrupted ostomy supply for long-term patients.
What is the recommended barrier change frequency?
The Stomahesive barrier in the ActiveLife system is designed for a standard wear time of 3 to 5 days, depending on output volume and consistency, skin condition, and individual factors. Patients should change the pouch if they notice barrier erosion, undermining at the adhesive edge, peristomal skin irritation, or odour breakthrough. More frequent changes may be necessary for patients with high-output stomas or liquid effluent. Follow institutional protocols or the individualised plan established by an ET nurse.
