Hollister Ostomy Systems in Singapore: One-Piece vs Two-Piece, Sizes and Colour Codes
EMIS+ Clinical TeamShare
Hollister is one of the most widely used ostomy brands worldwide, and its core range is now available in Singapore through EMIS+. If you or someone you care for is choosing between systems, here is how the pieces fit together.
One-piece or two-piece: what is the difference?
A one-piece system combines the skin barrier and pouch in a single unit. It is low profile, soft and quick to apply: measure, cut the barrier to your stoma size, and wear. The Hollister one-piece drainable Maxi (H8331) cuts to fit stomas up to 64 mm and uses the Lock N Roll closure with an AF300 filter.
A two-piece system separates the skin barrier from the pouch, which snap together. The barrier stays on the skin for several days while pouches are changed as needed, which means fewer barrier removals and less skin stress. Hollister's two-piece platform is called New Image.
How the Green, Red and Blue colour code works
Every New Image barrier and pouch has a coloured flange ring: Green is 44 mm, Red is 57 mm, Blue is 70 mm. The pouch flange must match the barrier flange in both size and colour. If your barrier has a red ring, order red-ring pouches. This one rule prevents most ordering mistakes.
Flat or convex barrier?
Flat barriers suit stomas that protrude normally from a flat abdomen. If the stoma is flat, retracted, or sits in a crease and leaks keep happening under a flat seal, a convex barrier presses gently around the stoma so output flows into the pouch. Convexity should be introduced with guidance from a stoma care nurse, especially soon after surgery.
When do barrier rings help?
Adapt barrier rings are mouldable seals placed between skin and barrier to fill creases and uneven contours. Oval stomas suit the convex oval rings, while the stretchable FlexTend convex rings add convexity to any flat barrier. Rings are replaced at every barrier change.
