Product Overview
DuoDERM Extra Thin (ConvaTec, 10 x 10 cm, box of 10) is a thin profile hydrocolloid dressing engineered for dry to lightly exuding wounds where a low-bulk, conformable cover is required. The wound contact surface is a hydrocolloid matrix of sodium carboxymethylcellulose (NaCMC), pectin and gelatin that interacts with wound exudate to form a soft, cohesive gel. This gelling action supports autolytic debridement and maintains a moist wound healing environment consistent with TIME wound bed preparation principles and EWMA guidance.
The outer polyurethane film acts as a viral and bacterial barrier (>25 nm intact) and is waterproof, allowing patients to shower with the dressing in place. Because the dressing is thin and translucent, it is suited to high-friction or visible anatomical sites such as the heel, sacrum, elbow and pretibial region, and is often used as a protective cover under medical tape or as a prophylactic dressing on intact skin at risk of pressure injury.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How does DuoDERM Extra Thin differ from a standard (CGF) hydrocolloid?
A: DuoDERM CGF (Control Gel Formulation) is thicker and intended for moderate exudate. DuoDERM Extra Thin uses the same hydrocolloid chemistry in a low-profile build for dry-to-lightly exuding wounds, where a thicker dressing would be unnecessarily occlusive or bulky. It is also more flexible across joints and visible anatomical sites.
Q: When should the dressing be changed?
A: Per ConvaTec IFU and consistent with EWMA guidance, the dressing may remain in place up to 7 days. Change when the gel bubble extends near the dressing edge, when the dressing dislodges, or when clinically indicated by infection or peri-wound deterioration. Avoid daily changes on intact peri-wound skin to preserve epidermal integrity.
Q: Is the dressing suitable for diabetic foot ulcers?
A: DuoDERM Extra Thin is not the first-line dressing for active or moderately exuding diabetic foot ulcers. IWGDF guidance reserves occlusive hydrocolloid for non-infected, lightly exuding wounds; for moderate-to-high exudate, an Aquacel Hydrofiber primary with foam or superabsorbent secondary is preferred.
Q: Can the patient shower with DuoDERM Extra Thin in place?
A: Yes. The polyurethane outer film is waterproof when the dressing edges remain intact. Patients should pat dry rather than rub the dressing and inspect edges after bathing.
Q: Is HSA registration required for clinical purchase in Singapore?
A: DuoDERM Extra Thin is HSA-listed (medical device class B) and is procured by Singapore restructured hospitals, polyclinics, GP clinics, and home-care providers. EMIS+ supplies the genuine ConvaTec p roduct with full traceability for institutional procurement and B2B clinic accounts.
